Because this VA driver managed to hit a State Trooper that was attending to *another* accident after a dusting of snow.
Meanwhile while the control room calls me for a work related situation I hear the supervisor announce there’s been another accident (this time on our project).
So Oppos, northern and southern, those who enjoy doriftos in the snow and those who know better, cheers to you for not being a statistic like this Accord has now become.

I never really had the need to drive in snow until I moved out here, then when I did I thought, “Oh, it’s like a mix of driving on sand and mud.” Treated it like that and everything went alright. You’d be surprised what skills you can gain with just a little bit of off road driving.

in fairness, I recognize that shitty, slushy snow. if you don’t have good winter tires, that shit is almost as slick as wet ice. it’s horrible; even in Michigan it causes a ton of problems.

My school was on time today in the land of two hour delays and closures, it was odd to see the roads so empty. The only part I had to actually be careful about was getting out of my development onto a state route then I was fine.

NoVa drivers see an inch of snow and either freak out or drive just as fast if not faster than in the dry.
I had a guy tailgating me when we got the first bit of snow earlier this season. I was in the slow lane going the speed limit, he takes his turn too fast and slides into the median.

I’m still a young driver at 18, but living in the Chicago area, I really don’t see what exactly is so hard about driving in snow.... I mean, I just think it’s common sense. If it’s snowing and I need to be somewhere, I simply leave earlier, take my time and give my self maybe 2 car lengths between my car and the car ahead. I also don’t understand people who get mad at me for going 5 or 10 mph under the speed limit in slippery/snowy conditions.

It is mostly common sense with the help of experience and tires. I’m always shocked how many people don’t seem to posses common sense, I can forgive not having experience or the best tires.

I live in NoVa but grew up in New York, so I always feel comfortable going out in the little snow we get here. Then my wife tells me not to, because everyone else out there is a bunch of incompetent fuckups in the snow. She’s right.

Red accord coupe involved in a preventable accident doing mostly damage to itself? Who would have thought?!
This is a perfect example of why the Explorer & Taurus police vehicles - fine, Police Interceptor Utility and Police Interceptor Sedan, happy? - are built to withstand - IIRC - rear-end collisions with sizeable vehicles going like 70-75mph.
